Orillia, ON, 11 May 2015 – On Sunday, May 3rd, members of the community came out in support of Hospice Orillia at their annual Hike for Hospice at Couchiching Beach Park and helped the organization raise $15,000! Local organizations, families and volunteers collected pledges, and 19 local businesses provided sponsorship support for the cause.

The Hike for Hospice is a national event that raises awareness about the need for quality hospice palliative care in our communities. Only 16% to 30% of Canadians who die currently have access to or receive hospice palliative and end-of-life care services depending on where they live in Canada. Even fewer receive grief and bereavement services.

While the event is coordinated nationally, funds raised through Hike for Hospice Orillia stay here in our own community, allowing for a direct impact to local service. Money raised at this year’s event will go towards client care and bereavement support programs.

Hospice Orillia is a not-for-profit charity organization offering practical, emotional and spiritual support to those in our community coping with advanced illness, death and bereavement. Volunteers and staff serve clients and their loved ones of all ages and backgrounds with compassion and respect while honouring their choices and supporting them through their life journey. All services are offered at no cost to the client or family receiving care. Hospice Orillia also provides education to the community through presentations and workshops.
