An event of commemoration for those we’ve loved and lost, at a time that can be very difficult; the holidays. All welcome: come one, come all
Let it Shine:
Hospice Orillia Invites You to Light a Candle in Remembrance of Your Loved One This Year
The days leading to the holidays can be difficult for those who are grieving. We remember those we have loved and lost, and we may feel a mixture of emotions; fondness of those wonderful times, a longing to see them again, and a wish to share these stories and feelings with others. Every year at Hospice Orillia, we offer a space for you and your loved ones to come and share with members of your community.
For anyone who has had the experience of having a loved one die, it will become obvious that life as you know it has changed. It is a time to be gentle with yourself as you re-learn the world around you. Part of this re-learning, is figuring out how Holiday events will now exist for you; what aspects will change? Will any stay the same? For example, other years, you may have made a dinner with all the trimmings, and maybe this year, you decide to create a few special dishes or order in from a restaurant you enjoy. Try to understand that you are going through a huge change and it is okay to allow traditions to evolve.
‘Candles of Remembrance’ can offer a time for you to reflect and share stories or just be with others that are grieving. Between the soft lighting, the endearing odes sung with care by a talented musician, the sparkling tree and decorations, the yummy sweet squares and coffee or tea, it is easy to feel cozy next to the fire place at the lovely Leacock Museum Café. One attendee described what she values most about this event, as “the ability to just be and let your emotions flow”. In a time of hurt, let us come together and remember what our Holiday celebrations are really about; love and light. Hope to see you there.
